Sun in Serbian Folk Rituals and Beliefs

The article is of an introductory and survey nature. Its subject is Serbian folk beliefs and oral traditions concerning the Sun as an entity—i.e., a figure (deity) actively operating in the world. Selected ethnographic materials are analyzed on several contextual levels: wedding, annual (ritual), cosmological, and epic levels. The analysis reveals the main cosmological aspects related to the Sun in Serbian mythology and outlines what kind of relationships were established with it for a person immersed in the traditional Serbian worldview.
